Basic Computer Security:

-There are let us put it simply bad people out there that want the information on your computer, your quicken data, your outlook email list, your access database information...  The bad guys also want to take control of your computer to spread more havoc to others in your good name.  A few simple ways to protect you computers:

-Every computer should have an anti-virus programming running.  And confirm that it is getting updates at least weekly.  Next make sure that you have a firewall and if you have a notebook and you use it away from the office, it must have a software firewall.  (We use the Comodo Firewall here with all of computers notebooks and desktops. See http://www.comodo.com/)  A firewall helps to prevent information transfers from your computer without your knowledge.  (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewall_(computing) for more information.)

-If you have a high speed connection from Comcast, Qwest etc. you may have been given a connection box and a password to make needed adjustments to that box.  Have you changed the password?  If not the default password is most likely either the same as all the other customers of your service or so simple that it can be guessed in two seconds flat.  Change it now or every computer thief in the world has the keys to your system.
